Job Description

OVERVIEW

UES, a BlueHalo Company has an opportunity for a Scientist to do advanced lab experiments and procedures to develop multi-cellular systems to approximate the human gastrointestinal system. The incumbent will work to develop multi-cellular culture systems, and characterize them using in vitro assays including microbial quantification, PCR, fluorescence-based analyses and imaging. Work will be performed leveraging mammalian and microbial cell cultures, including primary cells, iPSCs and organoid models. This work is in direct support within the 711th Human Performance Wing at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Maintain and propagate mammalian and microbial cell cultures
  • Conduct in vitro assays including microbial quantification, PCR, analyses of relevant cell properties (i.e., viability, barrier function/integrity, metabolism), and microscopy/imaging as well as routine laboratory procedures including DNA and RNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and western blotting
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and prepare technical reports and presentations
  • Communicate experimental results and collaborate with other team members
  • Support day-to-day operations and maintenance for hardware and software systems
  • Write manuscripts, technical reports, presentations
  • Coordinate with collaborators and customers to ensure delivery of work products

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL BRING

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Biological Sciences (Cell/Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry Neuroscience Microbiology, Immunology,) or related field
  • 2 to 6 years’ experience; thesis development preferred
  • Experience which includes a combination of the following:
    • Microphysiological systems and gut organoids
    • Basic/core lab skills
  • Demonstrated experience working independently, collaborating, and coordinating team activities
  • Strong verbal, written, publication and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • This position is working on government related projects and requires U.S. Citizenship
