Job Description

Purpose

The Engineer Technician II will be able to prepare and conduct standard tests for respective area. Operate all equipment in area correctly and safely and can instruct less experienced technicians, as needed. This position will have direct, daily interface with Engineering Staff (Design and Test). Testing Technicians work in a collaborative atmosphere with engineering, often creating testing improvements and engineering countermeasures.

Essential Functions*

Ability to troubleshoot all testing equipment to a component level

Use Lab scheduling &data storage software systems

Able to fabricate or modify parts or systems to match design directions.

Ability to break testing into tasks & direct others on those tasks

Use hand and air tools to maintain and understand test degradation.

The ability to use digital torque wrenches correctly and document the results.

Remove and install vehicle components, complete sub-assemblies or entire vehicle

disassembly/reassembly.

Ability to complete various levels of drivers training (Required)

Perform inspections on vehicle components/materials using aerosol penetrant and developer, digital cameras and coordinate Measurement Machine (Faro arm).

Fabrication of countermeasures, jugs and general repairs

Install strain gages

Produce high quality electrical connections.

Other Duties and Responsibilities (Non-Essential Functions)

Support TRC Inc.’s Quality and EH&S (Environmental, Health, and Safety) efforts

Manage equipment maintenance/calibration schedules and test parts inventory

Maintain a high level of lab safety and housekeeping

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Valid state DMV issued or valid foreign country issued driver’s license

High School diploma or GED is required

Associates degree preferred

Minimum of two years valid driving experience

Less than six points and/or three moving violations on driving record within last three years

Legible handwriting

Able to follow written and verbal directions given by the supervisor or customer

General knowledge of electrical, electronics, and/or mechanical components or equipment

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Basic computer skills

Understand the basic principles of how to operate safely basic automotive dealership equipment such as tire mount/dismount machine, and two post vehicle lifts.

Working conditions

May be exposed to temperatures below 0 degrees and above 95 degrees

May be exposed to inclement weather

May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, such as gas and oil

Majority of time spent inside of a motor vehicle

Physical requirements

Ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds

Ability to drive for long periods of time on bumps and rough roads resulting in persistent vibration, jarring, and uneven impact to the back, neck, shoulders, arms, and hands for an extended period of time

Capable of positioning one’s self into bending, stretching, climbing, or awkward positions

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time

Ability to communicate with customers and co-workers

Ability to enter work times into a computer

Able to speak and hear through a hand-held radio
