Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to; Designing, developing, and detailing mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Applying knowledge of engineering principles to design products including involvement in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products.



Applications Engineering - Estimation of main line materials handling systems (body weld, paint & assembly) for automotive manufacturing lines. The materials handling systems include Electrified Monorail System (EMS), Power & Free conveyors (P&F), Friction conveyors (FDS), Skillet conveyors (Platform), slat chain conveyors, vertical lifts and part carriers. Performs engineering studies to develop reliable and optimum material handling systems based on engineering practice or customer requirements.



Other Responsibilities

Performs engineering assignments related to designing and detailing using a CAD system
Communicate with customers, vendors and departments as needed
Order, track and coordinate onsite materials
Support field modifications and commissioning
Design and detail mechanical conveyor components by using AutoCAD or Inventor
Designing of structural steel support system of Material Handling System by using AutoCAD
Detailing of mechanical components and structural items. This will include dimensioning, Bill of material updates, and modification to existing/standard drawings
Plant/Construction site field inspections
Interface with fabrication/manufacturing team
Must be able to climb ladders, scaffoldings, etc.
Physically capable of sitting, standing and/or walking for long periods of time
Perform other tasks as assignedApplications Engineering

Applications Engineering

Perform engineering studies to develop reliable and optimal material handling systems based on best engineering practice or customer requirements
Assist in design and development of new conveyor systems and equipment, and standard cost evaluations for new conveyor equipment
Estimate costs for mechanical and structural components of material handling installation costs
Assist sales or technical service with the complete bid proposal development
Interface with customer engineers when gathering system requirements, than translate the requirement to functional technical specifications
Investigate/provide lowest cost material handling alternatives which meet customer requirements (VA/VE)
Make technical presentations of material handling solutions to customer engineers
Assist in supplier assessment and business sourcing


Qualifications




Knowledge of AutoCAD required.
3-D CAD software, Inventor or similar is desired.
Knowledge of mechanical systems (motors/chains), structural materials (steel beams/channels/angles), Steel machining/welding practices desired
Demonstrated PC skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Drafting concepts and fabrication practices
Works precisely and pays close attention to details
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in material handling and steel design
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge
Ability to travel as required
Work in an open office environment
Must be self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment
A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Must be available to work weekends, nights, overtime, and holidays, as needed



Applications Engineering

Visit customer sites for pre-bid and proposal development
Overtime required when due date for quote has been met
Must have experience in system design and implementation in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Automotive manufacturing strongly preferred
Strong skills and experience in estimating total costs for mechanical and structural components of material handling systems. Experience in bid proposals a plus
Must be able to perform engineering studies to develop reliable and optimum systems based on our automotive customers requirements
Must be proficient in AutoCAD (2012 or higher), Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS project.
Experience with automotive customer specifications
Experience communicating regular status to clients, superiors, and peers
Basic experience writing hardware specifications
Ability to provide immediate supervision to employees, assigning tasks, scheduling shifts, and checking at frequent intervals
Knowledge of manufacturing methods and procedures
Knowledge of quality and inspection requirements, manufacturing processes, and measurement techniques.

Education

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering preferred
0-2 years experience in mechanical engineering & designing
