Summary of Position

Manages the department, implementation, administration, management, staffing, and supervision of the fitness and facility operations; provides oversight on all risk management procedures and documentation. Coordinates Department of Campus Recreation assessment initiatives. Manages of the fitness and facility’s equipment and maintenance needs. Provides oversight on all the coordination and management of memberships and facility access. Facilitates the needs of the department’s technology systems and manages the fitness and facility operations/equipment reserve budgets. Coordinates facility projects within the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

Position Information

Supervises staff; assigns and reviews work; establishes timeframes for the completion of assigned tasks; trains and orients new employees; approves/disapproves requests for paid leaves; interviews candidates for employment and makes recommendations for hire; evaluates employee work performance; receives and responds to grievances; provides assistance with the development of unit work procedures and policies.

Researches and makes recommendations to supervisor regarding assigned area’s policies and procedures as it relates to completion of work and/or provision of services.

Prepares reports and other information/documentation to assist the supervisor in strategic planning of the assigned area.

Ensures the day-to-day functionality and assists administrators in the general oversight of the assigned area’s operations and services as related to any assigned program, initiative, or objective. Directs and/or coordinates daily tasks related to one or more assigned components of a department’s/division’s overall programs and/or services.

Regularly communicates with supervisor and other staff, including student workers, as required or needed in the completion of daily tasks in support of the department’s/division’s overall goals and objectives.

Prepares and maintains accurate records of daily tasks in accordance with the department’s/division’s (or University’s) policies and procedures and assures timely communication with supervisor, staff, and students where appropriate.

Gathers data and prepares reports and other information/documentation for supervisory review?related to the department’s/division’s programs and/or services, or one or more assigned components thereof.

Prepares for and attends events.

Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; participates in staff development activities; attends meetings, conferences, and other events.

Other Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other related duties as assigned.

Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday. Must be able to work occasional weekends and/or evenings.

Supervision Exercised: Supervision may be exercised over staff and student employees.

Qualifications and Competencies

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED*. Instructor Certification in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED.*

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, recreation management, sports management, kinesiology, education, and/or a health or wellness related field; three or more years of professional experience in facility operation and budget management; experience with technology equipment and software that is designed for facility management, accessibility and tracking management, program registration management, and/or budget management; experience supervising employees and recreation membership operations, facility operations management; experience coordinating and evaluating services based on current fitness, wellness, and facility management trends, as well as, other recreation areas.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s preferred; minimum four years of professional experience in recreation programming with facility operations and budget management in a higher education environment; experience with Innosoft Fusion and/or Banner; experience working with policies and procedures which govern budget development, purchasing, payroll, chargebacks, contracted services, and other budget related; knowledge of student development and best practices in recreation; event management; educational programs; facilities and risk management practices; emergency response procedures; fitness equipment and maintenance.
