Job Description

Sauder Woodworking is looking for a research and development engineer to join our innovation team. The R&D Engineer conducts research, analyses, and experiments to aid in the development of new products and new processes for the company. This role discovers product and process problems, then designs and implements solutions. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Studies and analyzes the Sauder product lines looking for opportunities to greatly improve and expand our business opportunities.
  • Collaborates with other departments to identify and solve their product and process challenges.
  • Collaborates with other departments to get their buy-in and support for new innovative products and processes.
  • Manages the necessary projects to test out new ideas and get them ready for commercialization in the market.
  • Provides written summaries and reports that document the results of the experiments and associated research.
  • Makes recommendations to management for the necessary resources and costs required to complete projects.
  • Builds the prototype equipment and products necessary to prove the concepts.
  • Stays abreast of technology by attending conferences and other educational opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A positive attitude and the ability to deal effectively with all people in a collaborative team environment
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to the changing needs of the department and company

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university. OR
  • Associate’s degree PLUS Minimum of 2-4 years experience, OR
  • Minimum of 5-7 years experience, OR
  • Combination of education and experience 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities with the exception of summer help and co-ops.
