Basic Function:

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering is seeking qualified individuals who may be interested in working as adjunct faculty members in support of its Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and its Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Systems Engineering Technology programs. Both programs are accredited by ABET.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Selected candidates will be considered for teaching a full range of lecture and lab courses in the Aerospace Engineering and Aeronautical Systems Engineering Technology programs. Courses include, but are not limited to, MATLAB®, thermodynamics (both applied and theoretical), aircraft structures, statics, dynamics, fluid power, instrumentation and control, strength of materials, systems engineering, propulsions and space systems.

Adjunct faculty are expected to:

  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts.
  • Prepare and deliver learning activities to achieve course outcomes.
  • Evaluate and grade students’ class work, laboratory work, assignments, papers, and examinations.
  • Maintain and submit student grades and other required documentation by specified deadlines.
  • Perform student learning outcome assessment for accreditation purposes.
  • Be available to students for office hours and out of classroom academic support.
  • Be sensitive to the needs of a diverse population.
  • May be asked to attend periodic meetings relative to teaching duties and training and development.

Courses are offered on a semester basis, fall (mid-August through mid-December), spring (mid-January through mid-May) and summer (several sessions). Classes are typically offered Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:45 am and 10:00 pm and run 1-2 days a week. The schedule of any class taught by an adjunct faculty member in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering will be coordinated with student schedules and the adjunct faculty’s availability, and on a case-by-case basis.

Standard compensation for a 3-credit hour course begins at $3300.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, aerospace engineering technology, or related field, and at least 7 years related-work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent) and advanced communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

  • A  master’s in aerospace engineering, aerospace engineering technology, or related field, and at least 3 years related-work experience

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

 Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
