INTERN POSTING

POSITION: Vector Control Technician – Seasonal (40 hours/week); May 2024-August 2024, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (maximum 480 hours)


ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 
The intern will conduct mosquito surveillance by setting and collecting mosquito traps and preparing the adult mosquitoes for shipment, accurate record keeping to include tracking surveillance and control measures, and necessary reporting; provide community outreach and education on mosquito abatement and prevention of mosquito-borne diseases; collaborate with location communities for larval control; assist with creating social media posts and press releases regarding the mosquito control program; maintain and store equipment.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES: Maintains confidentiality, as required, and comply with agency objectives and policies; Demonstrates human relation skills in order to provide good customer service and work closely with the clients of the Health District regardless of their social, ethnic, or religious status; Displays initiative and willingness to work independently; Prepare reports and summaries, as required; Other duties as assigned. Must be able to read and understand written procedures, instructions and maps, and understand the safe handling of pesticides. Must be able to work flexible hours including some evenings, nights, and weekends.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred applicant should be pursuing a bachelor’s degree or a graduate degree in environmental health, public health, animal science, or a related field.  Must have an understand of basic biology or science and be capable of learning to respond to position-applicable questions from the general public. Must possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and successfully complete background check at own expense prior to employment through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation as per Ohio S.B. 38. Further instruction regarding this will be given at time of offer.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Vector Control Technician requires an employee to work onsite at the Seneca County General Health District building, and a general schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., although a flexible schedule may be required, including evenings and weekends. Must be able to respond to emergency calls. Must be able to work in both office setting and outdoors. May come into contact with secondhand smoke, communicable diseases, blood, bodily fluids, allergens, dusts, cleaning supplies, insects, and animals.  Must be able to lift, climb, bend, twist, squat, push, roll, and support up to 55 pounds.

 

COMPENSATION: This will be a 40 hour per week position paid at $17 per hour. (Seasonal-May 2024-August 2024)
