OhioMeansJobs Summit County is partnering with a local manufacturer to recruit Lab Technicians.


PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Provide necessary daily operations, supervision, training, and support to lab technicians while maximizing resources to gain the highest level of quality work and throughput. Ensure employees are working toward common goals, remaining productive, and maintaining a positive work environment to sustain a Good Place environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure technicians are trained, consistently adhere to what they learned, and that work is performed per all established operating and quality procedures.
  • Lead and support department initiatives to ensure compliance to established government and company safety and quality standards (OSHA, ASTM, company Chemical Hygiene Plan, ISO 17025, and all other established standards.)
  • Manage the production backlog and turnaround time, by working with other supervisors and ensure necessary coverage at all test stations to meet and exceed completion targets.
  • Ensure department work areas are consistently maintained and orderly to provide a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Champion department business systems and processes to ensure accurate operations and high data/information integrity (LIMS, department metrics/measurements, QA/QC, etc.).
  • Lead continuous improvement throughout the department to drive optimal performance and quality. Areas of maintenance and improvement include instrumentation uptime, unplanned downtime, area workflow, ergonomics, and efficiency.
  • Champion direct supervisory tasks related to technicians including ongoing training, individual production performance, attendance, conflict resolution, and performance evaluations in support of Good Place.
  • Responsible to consistently wear the proper personal protective equipment, follow required safety procedures, and ensure employees in the department are as well.
  • Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • BS Degree in Chemistry, Biology, and/or equivalent combination of laboratory / industry experience and education
  • Prior experience with adherence and maintenance of quality systems and safety
  • Prior supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • 2 – 4 years laboratory / industry experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of and ability to carry out requirements of laboratory quality management (ISO)
  • Ability to understand, comply, and enforce chemical hygiene and laboratory safety
  • Knowledge of testing methods commonly used by Department (ASTM)
  • Knowledge of instrumentation commonly used by Department (GC, Karl Fischer, ICP, UPLC, HPLC, IR)
  • Possess basic chemistry knowledge and mechanical skills
  • Excellent communicator with ability to lead crucial conversations
  • Strong problem-solving aptitude
  • Ability to work independently and deliver on commitments
  • Software proficiency: Navision, LIMS, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
