Job Description

The IT Director, Retail Point of Sale Operations, will lead the technology organization responsible for operational support of retail POS solutions and value add services for Sherwin-Williams' Paint Stores Group's 5000+ locations across US, Canada, Caribbean, and Central/South America. The incumbent will manage and guide teams responsible for supporting applications and systems at the edge within retail store locations, including data movement between centralized systems and individual stores. In this role, the incumbent will partner with business leadership on strategic and project activities supporting the retail operations. The Director will maintain relationships with various IT delivery teams, business sponsors, and technology partners to deliver on the goals of the organization.

The position will be responsible for the development of long-term strategic plans, fostering innovation, ensuring use of best practices, planning / leading projects, cultivating and disseminating knowledge of best practices and policies for future initiatives. The incumbent will engage with peers to understand business and technology objectives and priorities and bring those drivers into iterative alignment with his/her technology vision and strategy. The Director will be responsible for ensuring key processes are followed including Release Management, Event/Incident Management, and Problem Management.

This role has accountability for the IT operational support model, sourcing strategy, talent management, budgets, and delivery for the Global POS portfolio. Importantly, this role will be responsible for reliability, scalability, and performance of the system, to mitigate risks and issues and ensure our ability to deliver service to our customers.
Strategy & Planning

Provide leadership, vision, and direction to the organization to ensure it will contribute to the company achieving its goals.
Work with IT leadership to develop overall IT strategy in the context of the business strategy.
Facilitate the governance process to gain consensus on a prioritized set of measurable business outcomes that retail systems and platforms must support.
Provide support and facilitate innovative and experimental work to test new ideas with bounded cost and time frames.
Utilizes research to improve Point of Sale technology environment by reviewing industry best practices; benchmarking industry against internal processes and solutions; and assessing future industry solutions for fit with internal needs.
Working with stakeholders to define a prioritized set of business outcomes and application work to accomplish those outcomes within the limitations of the budget.
Define and enhance methodologies and practices for the life cycle management in line with best practice and practical experience of continuous improvement.

Acquisition & Deployment

Guide and oversee the IT organization standards for process management.
Guide and oversee departmental processes and procedures in support of team goals.
Develop culture of Continuous Improvement to achieve time savings and cost reduction on an annual basis.
Implement and manage status reporting, metrics, and benchmarks.
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the operational support organization and is required to hold all teams accountable for optimizing the cost, risk, and value of retail systems and platforms throughout their life cycle.
Participates in assignments concerning development of target conceptual and logical architectures for applications.

Partnership


Partner with business stakeholders and other IT organizations to align on retail strategy and roadmap that drives best-in-class employee and customer experiences.
Manage relationships with major vendors and service providers to ensure they cost-effectively meet the needs of the organization.
Develop productive relationships with business leaders across the organization to influence how applications can enable new sources of value.
Working with the corporate security team to ensure that the organization's systems and platforms are effectively secured and that risks are mitigated.
Partner with IT People Management in support of talent strategy, culture, and change management.

People Development


Ensure a detailed succession plan is in place for both individuals and skills to ensure sufficient staff depth is in place to meet the needs of the business.
Team assessment, team development, hiring, retaining, and performance management.
Coach and mentor the team and identify skills development needs.
Performance reviews, goals setting, KPI development, and other administrative duties.

Incidental Functions

Represent the business function for IT initiatives and understand IT impact on business functions.
Assist with other projects as may be required to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the work.
Responsible for hiring activities and fulfilling affirmative action obligations and ensuring compliance with the equal employment opportunity policy.
Ensure proper mentoring channels have been established within the team.
10% travel may be required (domestic and international).
Work outside the standard office 7.5-hour workday may be required.

Formal Education & Certification


Bachelor's Degree (or foreign equivalent) or in lieu of a degree, at least 12 years of experience in the field of Information Technology or Business (work experience or a combination of education and work experience in the field of Information Technology or Business).

Knowledge & Experience


12+ years IT experience.
8+ years management or enterprise department manager experience.
8+ years IT delivery experience, including POS and/or retail technology.
Experience working with external partners to deliver quality solutions at scale
Must have demonstrated success in the design, implementation, and support of solutions that are highly reliable, flexible, and scalable in an international / global environment.
Leader and evangelist of modern / new processes and technologies that drives awareness and adoption at all levels of the organization.
Set direction & led introduction & use of techniques, methodologies & tools for delivering technology services to the enterprise.
Proven track record of hiring and leading highly technical senior level IT professionals and providing leadership guidance in supervision, recruitment, development, retention, mentorship, & organization of IT staff for a global multinational corporation.
Experience building scalable backend systems and platforms.
Understanding of the eCommerce technology domain.
Proven ability to earn respect, trust, and influence from people you work with and to mentor top technical talent.
Experience managing and adhering to plans, budgets, and value creation.
